A STRONG PARTNERSHIP
Stadtwerke Münster is a local energy producer and supplier of electricity, heat and drinking water, and its buses take people safely to their destinations. It is also expanding its connection to fast internet via fibre optics in Münster.
A company that bears a great deal of responsibility: with 22 city bus lines and around 130 vehicles, Münster Stadtwerke transports around 45 million people every year. Energy is generated locally in a climate-friendly way, for example through combined heat and power generation in the combined heat and power plant at the port and with renewable energy sources. Crisis resistance, robustness and endurance are therefore important criteria that Stadtwerke Münster places on its partners.
HMF meets these high requirements. Stadtwerke Münster has been using a TETRA radio system from the specialists for professional mobile radio in its daily operations since 2003.
2003 – 2023
HMF‘s TETRA radio system is in daily use. It has been running for more than 20 years and has been continuously expanded during this time.
At that time, Stadtwerke already recognised the great advantages for the private sector and switched from analogue radio to the new TETRA radio standard.
ACCESSNET®-T IP, the globally proven TETRA radio system from HMF, features high levels of availability as well as robustness against external influences (such as extreme climate, vandalism, cyber attacks, data manipulation or natural disasters). It is exactly the right choice for absolutely reliable communication – especially in mission- and business-critical applications such as those at Stadtwerke Münster.

Always up to date
The strong partnership with HMF has lasted more than 20 years and will continue to do so in the coming years. The desire to remain scalable with the HMF radio system and beable to respond flexibly to new requirements were the reasons for a comprehensive infrastructure update in 2015. Throughout the year, the DTX type base stations were replaced with the new DIB-R5 advanced. Installing future-proof technology was the most important detail of these conversions and the associated switch to an IP-capable base station.
An additional update in 2023 introduced a major enhancement to the software architecture (PV11), ensuring the system is optimally prepared to meet both current and future security demands.
Michael Lustmann, Group Manager Communication Technology, Stadtwerke Münster: “We need to juggle a lot of balls at the same time, a resilient radio system provides the basis for all communications in our operation. We are highly satisfied with the TETRA infrastructure and the products from HMF.”
